Hot Off the Press...

August 10, 2008

Here is a report I received from our show chairman, Dannette Hackman about her club's showing results.  A big CONGRATULATIONS!!!! to all the "kids" both two and four legged.  That's the way to go!!!

"It has been an incredible year at show...I found out from our judge, that one of my Mini-Obers went Best Doe of Show at the fair in Emmett, Idaho (not sure which county)...and this year my club were....CH Novice Showman, CH Junior Showman, CH Intermediate Showman, RCH Intermediate Showman, CH Senior Showman, and CH FFA Showman....We had about 14 members...and they each had about 10 individuals in their classes.  Aleasha (Hackman) went Best of Show Showman and got to do the Round Robin.  They were all in the dairy goat division and many had Mini's competing against standards...

FFA CH Dairy Goat was a Mini- Nubian

FFA RCH Dairy Goat was Mini-Nubian

4-H CH Sr. LaMancha was a Mini-LaMancha

4-H CH BOB Oberhasli was a Mini-Ober

4-H CH BOB Alpine was Mini-Alpine

4-H CH BOB Toggenburg was Mini-Togg

BOS Open Class overall doe was a Mini-LaMancha....

All the classes had 7 or more does with a total of 30 or more to win Best of Show...

I felt great that all the Mini's were so competitive...the judge felt they could go head to head with any ADGA doe anywhere...and he has competed 20 years in ADGA shows including showing animals at the nationals."

The MDGA is now under new management.  Jeanne Carson found it necessary to turn over the reins of the MDGA to Andrea Green.  Because of personal problems, she was unable to give the association as much attention as it needs.  So for the best of the registry, she made the hard decision to let it go.  Andrea, who is disabled has the time required to be available to keep up on all the work that is necessary.  She has been raising dairy goats for over 25 years as therapy for a broken back.

As many has done, Andrea started out getting any goat, any breed.  But soon she sold all but a nice herd of Saanens.  Many of her goats earned stars for their milking ability as well as championships.  One that she is very proud of, GCH AJ's Udder Delight Karlada 3*M, who still holds the national record for producing the highest butterfat for Saanens.

Later she won an Oberhasli in a raffle which started her duel herd with the "rusty" Saanens taking over several years later.  For a while the Oberhasli were her bred of choice. Then she bought a small herd of Nigerian Dwarf.  Of course you can't have Nigerian Dwarf and Oberhasli without starting Mini-Oberhasli.

With an understanding of registered dairy goats, DHIA, and the showring, Andrea brings this knowledge to the position of owner and registrar of the Miniature Dairy Goat Association.  She will be available to help you with any registration needs you have.

Beginning in August, 2007 the webmaster for the Miniature Dairy Goats webpage has changed hands.  Andrea Green will now be the webmaster.  We want to thank Becky Gates for the wonderful job she did as last webmaster.  If you have comments, suggestions or things you'd like to see on the webpage, please feel free to contact the webmaster

If you have a new champion, or an old one, if your doe has a large number of kids, or if there is something special about one of your animals, please let the webmaster know.  We might be able to put it on the webpage.  We all like to hear about those special things.

Check back often as we will be adding new things to the webpage as news items come in.  Please let me know is something is not working, or if some information is wrong.  I do make mistakes but will try to correct them.  Please contact me at Webmaster for MDGA.
