With MDGA now on a positive footing, it is time to start
bringing more people into the management of the association. So as of December
1, 2011 all registration of animals will be handled by Jacqui Wilcox and her
family.
I spent three wonderful days with them and showed them how the
database and pedigree program worked.
The on-line applications go directly to her as well as to the
MDGA office. Any mailed application are scanned and sent to her. If
you have any questions, you can e-mail her directly at
daystarsfarm@webband.com or the
MDGA office.

On June 1, 2011, I will be moving to town. The duties of the MDGA have become more time consuming so after 30 years of raising goats, I have sold them so I can devote more time to the registry. Without the goats I don't need the extra work of keeping up a farm. Nothing will change except the address. I will be here to help you with your questions and your registry needs. Just change the address to: 963 Fern Ave, Walla Walla, WA 99362.
Since Frontier does not service that area the e-mail address will need to be changed. Please make a note to start sending e-mails to mdga@miniaturedairygoats.com. My personal e-mail will be: andi@ajud.com. The phone number will remain the same. Thank you for your understanding.

Miniature Dairy Goat Association's (MDGA) Position Statement
Opposing the National Animal Identification System (NAIS)
The MDGA opposes the implementation of a mandatory NAIS at both
the state and federal levels. NAIS would apply to every person who
owns even one livestock animal which would include dairy goats. MDGA
is opposed to this program because:
- NAIS will not improve animal health or public food safety.
- The government and industry already have established systems
for tracking animals.
- NAIS violates many rights guaranteed by the US Constitution,
including:
- First Amendment - Freedom of religion - NAIS requires
registration of animals and premises in spite of scriptural
prohibitions.
- Fourth Amendment - Right to security against unreasonable
search and seizure - NAIS enables government surveillance of private
property without a warrant.
- Fifth Amendment - Right to due process - NAIS allows the USDA
to seize privately owned animals without due process.
The USDA is attempting to implement this program without
Congressional authority and oversight. It is obvious that NAIS will
have serious, unintended consequences which include:
- Significant cost in both time and money to
small farms, and private citizens who own pets.
- Limitation of individuals ability to
grow their own healthy food and enjoy the fruits
of their labor, or to keep an * animal as a pet.
MDGA believes that these consequences as well as others will
cause the destruction of small farms. For these reasons, MDGA does
stand strong against NAIS.

Some updates to the American and Purebred registration rules:
- 1. Percentages will remain on the certificates.
- 2. A 3rd generation kid can be registered from birth either as
Americans or Experimental at the discretion of the breeder. If the
kid conforms to breed standard in every characteristic other than
height, the owner can elect to fill out American application papers
on the kid. If the owner feels that the kid will not mature up to
breed standard they can fill out Experimental application papers.
There will be no upgrading after they are once registered.
- 3. These rules will take effect on Jan 1, 2009.
- 4. A window until March 1, 2009 will be granted to upgrade those
animals that are registered now as experimental but qualify to be
upgraded. After that date no animal will be upgraded. What they are
registered as will be what they remain for the life of that animal.

Andrea has asked me (Eliya) to take over the managing of MDGA's
website. I have enjoyed working on the V-Show website and look
forward to maintaining this site. I have given it a major overhaul
and have added a lot of new information. Of course we are always
looking for more mini-dairy goat pictures to add to the site, so if
you have any you can email them to me at
webmaster@miniaturedairygoats.com
Also if you find any issues with the website (typos, inconsistent
info, broken links etc.) I'd appreciate a quick email to let me
know. I want to keep this website up-to-date to reflect the changes
in the registry as well as provide assistance to long time breeders
as well as our many new breeders and owners.

Here is a report from our show chairman, Dannette Hackman about
her club's showing results. A big CONGRATULATIONS!!!! to all the
"kids" both two and four legged. That's the way to go!!!
"It has been an incredible year at show...I found out from our
judge, that one of my Mini-Obers went Best Doe of Show at the fair
in Emmett, Idaho (not sure which county)...and this year my club
were....CH Novice Showman, CH Junior Showman, CH Intermediate
Showman, RCH Intermediate Showman, CH Senior Showman, and CH FFA
Showman....We had about 14 members...and they each had about 10
individuals in their classes. Aleasha (Hackman) went Best of Show
Showman and got to do the Round Robin. They were all in the dairy
goat division and many had Mini's competing against standards...
- FFA CH Dairy Goat was a Mini- Nubian
- FFA RCH Dairy Goat was Mini-Nubian
- 4-H CH Sr. LaMancha was a Mini-LaMancha
- 4-H CH BOB Oberhasli was a Mini-Ober
- 4-H CH BOB Alpine was Mini-Alpine
- 4-H CH BOB Toggenburg was Mini-Togg
- BOS Open Class overall doe was a Mini-LaMancha....
All the classes had 7 or more does with a total of 30 or more to
win Best of Show...
I felt great that all the Mini's were so competitive...the judge
felt they could go head to head with any ADGA doe anywhere...and he
has competed 20 years in ADGA shows including showing animals at the
nationals."

The MDGA is now under new management. Jeanne Carson found it
necessary to turn over the reins of the MDGA to Andrea Green.
Because of personal problems, she was unable to give the association
as much attention as it needs. So for the best of the registry, she
made the hard decision to let it go. Andrea, who is disabled has the
time required to be available to keep up on all the work that is
necessary. She has been raising dairy goats for over 25 years as
therapy for a broken back.
As many has done, Andrea started out getting any goat, any breed.
But soon she sold all but a nice herd of Saanens. Many of her goats
earned stars for their milking ability as well as championships. One
that she is very proud of, GCH AJ's Udder Delight Karlada 3*M, who
still holds the national record for producing the highest butterfat
for Saanens.
Later she won an Oberhasli in a raffle which started her duel
herd with the "rusty" Saanens taking over several years later. For a
while the Oberhasli were her bred of choice. Then she bought a small
herd of Nigerian Dwarf. Of course you can't have Nigerian Dwarf and
Oberhasli without starting Mini-Oberhasli.
With an understanding of registered dairy goats, DHIA, and the
showring, Andrea brings this knowledge to the position of owner and
registrar of the Miniature Dairy Goat Association. She will be
available to help you with any registration needs you have.
